Getting a second opinion?

hi,

im visiting my dentist tomorrow morning, she was the one who fitted me with my veneers just 5 months ago but I am going back yet again because am not happy with them, but anyway an hour after that appointment im going to get a second opinion from a cosmetic specialist.

If my dentist refuses to do anything about it, and the second dentist tells me there is something wrong with them (though just looking at them tells me that but there are other problems too), can I take it further?

what would you do?
Veneers should last years not 5 months, doesn't the dentist who put them on have an obligation to sort it out? I don't fancy paying another 2K somewhere else when I worked hard to pay for them first time round.

My dentist is a lovely woman but at the end of the day, she doesn't have to go around looking like this!

what the law? im in the UK btw

The option was given to me veneers or crowns, i asked what her professional opinion would be, and she opted for veneers, as it's less impact to the teeth.

they have been discoloured, they are rough, i can see lines and marks on them, one of them has moved out of like, its no longer straight, they bleed alot when i brush, and gums can be sore sometimes too. my speech has been affected and i find it hard to bite, it doesnt feel right anymore.

i never thought it would be a permenent solution because i know its not but i dont expect problem after problem after 5 months

you must be having a gum problem. Afraid of wearing off the veneer, you would have not brushed properly & thats why the bleeding & tooth movement. Its not the dentists fault. You have not kept your oral hygine clean.

Hopefully she will stand behind her work. Were you satisfied with them when you left her office the day she put them on? Why are you going in five months later? Veneers aren't always fool proof, nor are they a permanent solution. It is more difficult to bond a vane er to a tooth than it is to crown a tooth. What factored into your decision to go with veneers rather than crowns? Give your dentist a chance but if you're not satisfied with the results, then get a second opinion, but I am not sure a cosmetic specialist is the answer.
As for the law, here in the US, it is matter of what office policy is. Office policy is what the law goes by for the most part.

Basically if you are not happy with her work, you should talk to her and try to get them done satisfactorily. But it may not look the way you have in mind-perhaps your teeth or crooked or there is some other factor involved. Your not being satisfied may not mean that they were done wrong, so be open-minded as you try to resolve this.
You have the right to get a second opinion, but dentistry is a profession, meaning that dentists will not criticize one another's work unless there is an obvious neglect of work. Veneers are a cosmetic procedure, and therefore appearance can be subjective. Or the second dentist may have a completely different solution in mind.
Also, regarding what you said about the length of time veneers last, some restorations don't have long life spans.
Good luck with resolving this. Keep your cool and remember that your dentist has your best interests in mind.
