Should I get a second opinion? Perferrably Cardio Docs and Nurses? |
My son was just diagonsed with a Still's Murmur. Should I be concerned his doctor didnt seem to concerned because it's not really affecting him. I'm a bit worried because my brother suffered from it and by the age of 13 he had to have a pacemaker inserted. Should I get a second opinion from a peds cardiologist? and do I need a referral for one? Still's "murmurs" are very common in children and is not the result of any heart defect. I have heard as many as one of three children can have this, but yet we get referrals for them all the time. Provided the child is growing nicely, isn't turning blue, or huffing and puffing, it is totally fine. It would be advisable to have an echocardiogram done just to be sure, but provided one has been completed, nothing more needs to happen. You do not need a referral to a specialist.(Unless it is one of these "by referral only" docs) Yes, get a second opinion. You shouldn't need a referral, but everyone's insurance is different. |
