Angiogram second opinion?

Hi, my friend took a stress test for her heart, and the results came back abnormal. She has always gotten good results back. Now she is very nervous. SHould she ask for another stress test or another heart Drs. opinion?

The test she had was the tredmill test.

Well the GXT test is usually 90% accurate in detecting CADs, it could been abnormal yes, but this could be also what we call a false positive, which means that the test was positive but there is not presence of Coronary Artery Disease (CAD). She could ask for another Stress Test and if this one comes back abnormal again it means that there is CAD, but if she is still not confident with this results, she could see a Cardiologist and try to get an prescription for an Angiogram, If the GXT was positive and it was a false positive, the Angiogram will provide the exact results for the existence of CADs.

Always get a second opinion, especially when there's doubt.

It depends on which stress test she had! Was it with or without chemicals (nuclear)? Why is she having stress tests if her heart is normal? That is not normal procedure for someone with no history of heart disease. Does she trust her current heart doctor or is there one near her that might be better? Call the nearest large hospital and ask who the head of Cardiology is...try and get an appointment with him/her.

No there is no reason for another stress test .Sometimes the stress test can give you a false positive. The cardiologist will probably suggest she have a cardiac catheterization. This test will be conclusive if she has any heart blockages.

cdrn is right, take her advice

One cath coming up! The nurse and the doc above me are both correct. With the cardiac catherazation, they can see if any vessels that supply blood to heart has blockage. If they find a blockage that is significant enough to cause damage they will more than likely stent it. This will open the vessel and allow the blood to flow as it should. They can usually do this during the same procedure on the same day.

Go have an angioplasty. Very conclusive.
