Second Opinion For Ovarian Cysts?

Two days after my ultrasound was done, I had to call the doctor for the results. (Mind you it was 4pm two days later and he should have called by then because I know for a fact he had the results.)When the receptionist/nurse/ whoever got back onto the phone from putting me on hold, all she said was that they results were in and the doc said "there are several cysts on your ovaries and to just wait 2 or 3 months and come back for another ultrasound appt." I know this is probably normal for most people, but I would think having SEVERAL cysts he would want to find out more, even refer me to a specialist.I have had symptoms for at least a year that I can remember and they are getting worse. My main question is can more tests/procedures be done to find out the severity? And if I am pretty sure they've been there for at least a year is there a chance they will go away on their own?My pain and symptoms are worsening.I may also be pregnant and want to make sure the baby, if I am, will be okay.

One thing I would like to add it that I had been on birth control pills the past two years and once these symptoms appeared I stopped taking them, figuring if my period was becoming irregular on the pills, taking them correctly, I might be doing more damage.

My niece was suffering from polycystic ovaries, preventing her from getting pregnant. The doctor confirmed the diagnosis by use of a fasting blood insulin test. I highly suggest that test for you, because if you have high insulin production, it is a precursor for a lot more than just polycystic ovaries.

If the doctor won't order the test, ask the doctor to prescribe it - because you can take the prescription to a blood lab and pay cash - ask for a cash discount - may be $80-100. I suggest you go to a "Quest" lab - or any lab that does this test daily (not just once a month) as it has to be done right. If the result is 10 or higher, that may be indicative of high insulin.

I would not recommend drugs until this test is done. Have the pregnancy test done first.

My sister's mother in law (a nurse who believed in homeopathic medicine) turned me on to red raspberry for my ovarian cyct problem. I chose to go with the red raspberry capsules, but drinking (unpre-sweetened) raspberry tea is supposed to help soften the cysts naturally. I would take one a day the week before ovulation and one a day the week after ovulation. It worked for me.

How old are you? I used to think fibroids and cysts were very dangerous too, until I had both.
I was nearing menopause and statrted getting severe pains, heavy bleeding, which of course caused me to become anemic.
Doctors took ultrasounds, approximately every 3-6mos. for almost three years.
They checked the size, and told me they weren't quite large enough to require surgery.
I had both several fibroid tumors, and ovarian cysts. They told me unless a cyst bursts, and the only complaint is pain, they do not require surgery.
My periods have since ceased, and the last couple years before they did, I was only having two periods a year. I am glad I never had the surgery.
