Should i get a second opinion before having a heart catherization? |
Should i get a second opinion before having a heart catherization? I totally disagree with all the previous opinions. If you feel the need to get a second opinion because you don't trust your doctor's judgment then you should get a totally new doctor all together. Heart catheterizations are invasive but we do almost 40 a day at my hospital. They are the most invaluable diagnostic imaging we have for hearts. They are almost pain free, other than the pain associated with the incision. The risk has been cut dramatically over the years to almost no risk at all and if you are just having pictures taken without placement of any stents your risk is very low. If one doctor recommended that you have a heart cath done, most doctor's will tell you the same thing. The only difference will be that some doctors will tell you that you don't need one done and do a bunch of other unnecessary tests on you like stress tests and echocardiograms which may or may not find the problem. And the odds are that if they do find the problem with a stress test that they are then going to want to do the heart cath anyways and place stents to alleviate blockages in your coronary arteries Yes Yes absolutely! It's not an easy procedure for you! I highly recommend a second opinion. Always get second or even third opinions. Women should be aware that this procedure causes more strokes in women than men. Know your risks. Check out site below. I believe everyone should get a second and third opinion when it comes to a situation like yours. I feel you should get 3 opinions. If 2 are similar and one is not then the two that is the same you probably should go with. Ask your doctor if there is a natural procedure for your condition so that there will not be any side effects. If not then go with what is best. But please "DO" get a second opinion. Good luck, and I hope you are well soon. i dont know what is our main problem xx why u need a heart cat.? No if doctor thinks you might have blockage find out now. It is not hard on you with very little risk. |
