I think i may have SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder)?

i think i may have SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) this is the first time this had happened to me. Im also starting to get an urge to cut myself again. ( I havnt cut myself for about 4 years now, but thats a different story) My grades are starting to fall in school and i dont know what i should do about this disorder. Please help me.

About the only thing you can do, besides hiring a shrink, is get this book: "The Feeling Good Handbook" by David Burns, MD. In it, he describes how to master cognitive therapy. It's just a way of reprogramming how you think about things (like life, for example).

I was depressed for five long, miserable years, went to several doctors, ended up in an ER after a suicide attempt and went to a mandatory 72 hour mental hospital stay, went to group therapy for several weeks, took many drugs, all to no avail. After reading Dr. Burns' book and applying his techniques, I began to feel better in three short weeks. It's been two and a half years, and I've never looked back. I'm having more fun now, than I've ever had despite having two chronic and miserable diseases (fibromyalgia and diabetes). If an $18.00 book can do that for me, imagine what it can do for you.

Start seeing a therapist or a counselor. You might need meds to make it through the winter. You can also try a light therapy box (you can google it). They are special lights that mimic natural sunlight and can help with your mood. Start out at like 15 or 20 minutes first thing in the morning. Work up to like 30 minutes. But be careful, if you tend to get manic, they can push you over to that side if you overdo it. Best to talk to a therapist about it.

For SAD, going out each day for a minimum of 10 minutes will give you the sunlight that you require to counteract the negative effects of SAD.

Some people buy sunlamps for this purpose, but many have no luck with them, other than they make a good table lamp.

Go see a counsellor or therapist right away about your urgers to cut and also your SAD. Nip this in the bud. Don't delay and suffer needlessly. You can be helped.
