Seasonal Affective Disorder Lightboxes -- Can I just get a bulb, I can't afford to buy a box!!?

I don't have SAD, but bipolar, and my psych told me to try to get a 10,000 lux bulb or light box.

Problem is, the only lights that say 10,000 lux are the light boxes. Can't I just find a bulb? I can buy a fixture, but I can't fork out the $150-$250 right now for the box.

You are right about SAD lights being expensive. I looked online at several webistes for light therapy. I started thinking, Walmart, Target. . . . well how about Sears! I found two lamps at Sears.com but I'm not sure whether they have 10,000 Lux lighting. They are considered "full spectrum Lights" which fits into this category. The cheapest one was $69. It is a floor lamp. Actually both are floor lamps.

I know about bipolar disorder because I have it. I have had more depression than mania so I'm a type 2. I have some problems when I don't get my sunshine but I've never been diagnosed with Seasonal Affective Disorder.

Here are some web links that you might be interested in including the 2 lamps at Sears.com. I think that the one for $69 you can order online and pickup at a store near you.

I hope this helps a little bit. Take Care!

there are these lights called natural spectrum lights, and yes, they are way cheaper. you could prolly get them at walmart. i would save for a box in the mean time though.

well, just a thought, unless you live in Alaska, just put on a coat, hat, scarf and some mittens...maybe some boots too and go outside. Take a walk. Try skiing or sledding even. It's not just the light. The fresh air helps a lot too. It's funny, I actually enjoy shovelling the sidewalk because it's an excuse to get off the couch and go outside for a while.
