Anyone have SAD- seasonal affective disorder? Suggestions?

I was just told by my doctor I have SAD. I am against taking medication. Anyone have any suggetions on how to get through the winter months? Does light therapy really work? Light boxes seem pricey.

You may want to try going to the tanners. Just put sun-screen on and don't go in for too long. But I have heard that it works! And when it is sunny outside (even if its cold), bundle up and spend some time outdoors!

thanks for asking, others needed that info. thanks Report It

Lots of light, the color yellow, visting summer resort websites, etc. all help. But nothing helps more than getting off the drugs and using cognitive therapy in addition to a healthy diet and exercise program. Buy a copy of Dr. Burns' book: "The Feeling Good Handbook". It will truly change your life. Email me if you are determined to get off the drugs and get rid of SAD for good.

Light therapy works, and it is pricey. If the Doctor gives you a prescription your insurance may pay for it. You have to sit in front of the light for a couple hours at a time to begin with. I know a lot of people including myself with this disorder. Sometimes in Sun. suppliments have cheaper versions of the light.

I had that when we lived in Alaska
You need light that is the whole cause of it
