Scoliosis ?

I am 28 I had an x-ray today and it showed that i have curve in my back, my doctor says scoliosis she says their is not reason to worry that it will not continue to grow cuz i am done growing and that I will not become deformed, should I believe her? I have no pain with it that I no of.

yes, i have scoliosis, it makes no difference once you are done growing, really trust me you may have had it all your life and just not known it

Even though you chose an answer, you should take a look at the answer that gives the National Scoliosis Foundation as a source. Report It

I also have a minor case of scoliosis.

I'm 22.

It was found during a chest x-ray when I was in highschool. Since then I have placed in the Top 5 in the US in collegiate athletics and been in the military - if you're doc says it's ok, and you feel no discomfort, you'll be fine.

Depends on where the curve is. The curve will stop changing once you finish growing. However, women that have the curve lower in the back near the tailbone can experience a change in the curve during pregnancy.

It may depend on how much curvature there is, but evidently yours must be small since your doctor is not worried.

Here is some more information

Pain in adult-onset or untreated childhood scoliosis often develops because of posture problems that cause uneven stresses on the back, hips, shoulders, necks, and legs. In one study conducted 20 years after growth had stopped, two-thirds of adults who had lived with curvatures of 20 to 55 degrees reported they experienced back pain. Other studies have reported that adults with a history of scoliosis tend to have chronic and more back pain than the general population.

One doctor followed his patients that were adults and had scoliosis these are his findings:
About 60% of adult patients do not get worse
Of the remaining 40% about 10% show a very significant progression
The other 30% will show a very mild progression, maybe less than one degree per year.

I hope this has helped a little. I would believe your doctor, but have it checked about once a year just to keep an eye on it. That way, if it does start to progress, you can be on top of it.
Good Luck!

Well...yes and no. I don't know how severe or mild your curve is. Generally speaking, if you have mild curve, no..it's not something you need to worry over, although it may contribute to early degenration of the spine, it's not something that needs treatment at this point..unless it's causing pain.

If it's more than 30 degress, there are chances of early degeneration happening sooner and could contribute to additional progression due to degeration..

Opinions vary and it would depend on case by case..some say 30..some say 50...once you go over certain mark, the loading is enough to keep the progression going even if you are done growing...

So it really depends on your severity at this point...
