Scoliosis question.?

Hiya. I have just found out tha even though I am only 13, I have developed scoliosis. My doctor confirmed this.

My question is, What kind of treatments will I have to go through to get rid of my Scoliosis? Is it fatal? Will I be able to participate in tennis, or swimming?

please answer if you know aobut scoliosis, or you have it/ have recovered from it.

I also have Scoliosis, mine was caught when I was 15. At first I didn't have to have any treatment for my back. Then about six months later I had to wear a brace for a year. During that time I was till able to play tennis, I played for my high school team, when I had practices or matches I just took it off. I don't wear the brace anymore because I am done growing. I still have the curve but I don't have to do anything for it except go to the doctor once a year to make sure the curve hasn't gotten worse.

You do not develop scoliosis you are born with it. If your was not discovered until 13 years of age, it is minor. Depending on the curve there is surgery, which I doubt will be your case. Physical therapy is sometimes recommended. You will be encouraged to participate in sports such as swimming.

Scoliosis is not fatal. It is a curvature of the spine. If you are only 13, they may put you in a back brace so that as you grow, it doesn't get worse. When I was diagnosed, they sent me to physical therapy to help strengthen my back muscles. I can still do just about everthing, but I do sometimes have a little to a lot of pain. Go about your life as if nothing is wrong with you unless your doctor advises otherwise.

I was diagnosed with scoliosis at the age of 12. I wore a back brace for 4 years, also did exercises every morning and evening. The only way it can be fatal is if it is moving your rib cage if so it can cause lung damage. When I wore my brace I got to take it off for 30 minutes in morning and 30 at night in the beginning. I was a baton twirler and my orthopedic surgeon would let me take the brace off for my competitions. Some people opt for surgery which is putting rods on both side of the spine to help maintain the normal spinal alignment.

Take Care!

Scoliosis is not fatal. Since you are only thirteen, if your curve is over 25 degrees they might consider putting you in a brace. If it hasn't been caught until now, it probably isn't too severe. Most likely, you'll just need to go in about once a year to get an xray so they can monitor your curve. You should still be able to participate in tennis, swimming, and just about any other sport.
