Scoliosis HELP Anyone used or using the SpineCor Brace? Need help deciding which brace to use.?

Last week I found out my son has scoliosis. I have been going mad looking for information on what I know so far. The Findings were: The curve from T1 thru T11 convex to the right neasures 8 degrees. In the lumbar spine, there are six lumbar vertebral bodies with an accessory rib off L1 on the left. The curve from T12 thru L6 convex to the left measures 17 degrees. There is increased lumbar lordosis. Impression: The patient has a small 13th rib which is a transitional vertebra of L1. Scoliosis as described. The scoliosis is not in balance with greater lumbar scoliosis than dorsal scoliosis. PLEASE, If you are a patient who has something simular I would like to hear from you and if anyone has used the Spine Cor Brace please let me know how it was for you. I am very worried and scared.. Trying to make a decision for my baby. Thanks.

In my opinion Spinecor is probably the best bet. Exisiting studies indicate it has better success rate (89%) and 60% stable correction...that's unmatched with any rigid brace..
and the rigid brace is so hard to wear that at such a mild stage, there's no MD in right mind who'll prescribe rigid braces..

Spinecor on the other hand is pretty easy on the wearer so if one wanted to be proactive, that'd be the best choice.

I've heard of many cases where kids who switched to Spinecor from Boston or other types of TLSO brace were extremely happy with them...likewise with their parents.

13th rib or 6 lumbar vert. are not unexpected findings as idiopathic scoliosis involves growth anomally and one usually find other associated bone deformities in immediate regions of effected area.

There are those physicians who are afraid of presribing any treatment without making sure that the curve is going to progress as rigid braces are extremely hard on the wearers...

But that's not true anymore. There are better statistics and predicting future prognosis without treatment is more accurate now...as it was presented at last years annual meeting of scoliosis research society...

The bone deformity surrounding effected region indicates that the problem is more severe than not and it is often easier to treat patients when they are in earlier stage and flexible...better outcome (greater stable correction) can be expected with treatments applied early on.

I don't know where you are located..but if you are close to CA check out http://www.myscoliosis.net

I'm so glad to see a parent actually helping the child with this. There is so much that can be done at an early age. Me and two of my sisters were diagnosed with scoliosis when I was in the 3rd grade. My parents didn't do anything about it. Luckily, mine just looks like I'm not sitting up straight when I really am. Mine doesn't curve to the left or right. It extends outward, like a hump. I really hope you can help your son. I'm only 26 and have TERRIBLE back problems...including nerve damage. I wish you the best of luck and I'm sorry I wasn't any help.

If you go to http://www.scoliosis.org/forum/archive/i... it may help you with some of your questions.

My daughter had surgery for scoliosis a year ago now and is doing great.

I hope that you find the answers that you are looking for.
