Scoliosis surgery is what the doctor told me i needed and i am only 15 and scared.should i get it done? |
i just found out that i need scoliosis surgery. The most concerning risk with scoliosis surgery is paraplegia. It is very rare (about 1 in 1,000 to 1 in 10,000 chance) but is a devastating complication. i dont know if that is worth the risk...if there is anyone that has had this surgy plz post something saying if it was worth it or not. ok the degree on the top is 45 and on bottom is 38 I had the surgery two years ago, when I was 18. My doctor wanted to do it when I was 14 but I was too scared and decided not to have it done. Then my back got a lot worse and I ended up having to have it done because my spine was crushing my organs. I would suggest getting another opinion but don't be scared or back out if they both suggest it. Waiting may allow your back to get much worse and it may heal better if it's done while you are young. And I don't suggest seeing a chiro or anyone like that, scoliosis shouldn't be fixed by their methods. I had scoliosis surgery 14 years ago. The only neg thing I have exper so far is when I had my son I couldn't have an epidural since they didn't want to hit the scar tissue. On the plus side I did grow 2 inches in one day. When else will you have that chance? Hope this helps and good luck! Report It before you make any decision I would advise you to go to an osteopath for a second opinion, also to see if with manipulations he can help resolve this without surgery. As we do not know how severe you back is it is hard to give further help. my curves are similar to yours and i never had surgery. you seem maybe a bit young too, when i was in treatment they wouldn't consider surgery until i was at least 17. i wore a brace for 3 years and that helped prevent my curves from getting worse while my body continued to grow. I had the surgery when I was 3. If you need it then you need it. Trust me, it will more then likely get worse and at some point surgery will not be an option anymore. Also, to the one that said see a chiropractor...YOU NEVER EVER SEE A CHIRO OR ANY OTHER DOCTOR LIKE THAT FOR SCOLIOSIS!!!!!! |
