Scoliosis and the chest?

i had scoliosis since I was a child. Tried the back brace didnt workout, I came home crying cuz the kids would tease me but now as I am mature, and wiser I wish I did wear it. My back is really really bad like I can notice it so much. Like my shoulder blade sticks out the right and my head is focused weird. Worse of all my chest hurts sometimes when I walk. The doctor told me scoliosis doesnt affect the chest. What do you think????

almost 4 years ago-curve 39 degrees

of course it'll effect your chest...that's why you do the major surgery in severe cases...
if it's causing chest issues, you may be in 70's or more now..
Scoliosis starts to decrease lung capacity around 70's and when you go over 90-100, it starts to pressure your heart..
I think you should see an orthopod asap...for possible surgical intervention...

it does affect it. If it isn't fixed the spine will push on the lungs and make it hard to breathe. FIND A NEW DOCTOR! This one has no clue what they are talking about.

hello. amazaingly i have been dealing with a very similar situation. the truth is of course scoliosis can affect your chest, and your rib cage, and your hips and ultimaltely every other part of you.

I recommend you thank your doctor for their information and request a second opinion. Seek to obtain a scoliosis survey (nice word for x-ray) to measure the degree of curve. If the curve has worsened you need to figure out what your options entail and get it taken care of. Scoliosis does not get better on its own, it can only get worse.

Good luck!
