Scoliosis help!!!?

I have a mild case of scoliosis and was wondering is it caused by bad posture and if yoga can help correct scoliosis? and if anyone knows any other types of exercises that can help please let me know. The doctor said it wont get worst since im pretty much done growing which is good.

Bad posture does not cause scoliosis. You can have good posture and still have it.

Here are two websites about it:
http://www.emedicinehealth.com/scoliosis...
http://www.scoliosis.com/

By the way, your doctor is wrong. You can still have problems with scoliosis in adulthood even though you may be done growing. Scoliosis does NOT go away!

I know because I have scoliosis and so does my mother. My mother's is severe and cannot be fixed. She is 81 and cannot be operated on. I first was diagnosed at 15 with mild scoliosis. I'm 44 now and right now I can tell the curve is visible (my left side is shorter than the other, my left clavicle is visible) and my height has gone down an inch.

First off to know how to treat it you need to know why it happened. If it is congenital then you can't do much about that. But if it is due to a leg length imbalance then putting a lift under one foot may level you out and reduce the stress on your spine.

As for your doctor saying that it won't get worse since your done growing, look for a new doctor. As you age the stress points on your body will either reinforce themselves with added bone growths, osteophytes, or they will bend more and more. Either way it WILL effect you.

Think of it this way I have a straight wood beam pointing straight up out of the ground and I hang a weight off of it. It won't bend or break right? It will just push itself further into the ground. Now what if that beam is S shaped. Will it hold up as well? I think you get the point.

I also have a mild case of scoliosis. It was picked up and monitored during highschool but I was never given any reason to be concerned, nor any treatment. My Mum however thought it was a good idea to get me into some regular exercise which focused on strength and posture. I believe it helped more in my posture, rather than my scoliosis - the two are quite different. Anything you can do to maintain the health and strength of your body has got to be beneficial so yoga would be great. Your doctor is probably right in that the scoliosis itself won't get worse, but having said that it may affect other parts in the back as you age. Best to stay active either say to exercise is definately the way to go. All the best
