Scoliosis help/living with scoliosis?

I have a very slight case of scoliosis with a curve from around 7-11%. When I run in PE (weekly 1,2,or3 mile runs) my spine feels like it's digging into my body. I don't have a back brace. Is there a way I can get out of running?

Talk to an orthopedic doctor... He can check out your spine, and give your regular physician a description on your spine's condition, and how it's progressing... Your regular physician can give you a note to give to your PE teacher. If it's causing you pain, you might want to talk to the orthopedic doctor about a brace, even if it isn't that bad. I had surgery for scoliosis just 3 months ago(I had a 67 degree curve, and now I have a 13 degree curve), and I can't stress how greatly enough upon getting it checked out.

Get a note from your DR I have the same problem.

Only your doctor can get you out of PE, but I doubt you'll get it. It's hard to run, don't know if it's cuz of your scoliosis or not, only your doctor would know.

well, doctor's note with restriction of certain activities would do...
if it progresses further, check out spinecor...

A 7-11% curve is unlikely to be the cause of your back pain. I had a 72 degree curve (18 after surgery) and no pain at all. I also did hard core yoga. Most people have a 1-10 degree curve so if you were excused, half your class would be too.

I would say your best bet would be to talk to a chiropractor about it, and not your pediatrition. If the problem is bad enough, they will give you a referal. A doctor for your SPINE could write you a legit excuse.

If you are flat footed or if you have bad knees, it could cause the problem. I would invest in a good pair of running shoes and some arch insoles, because that is more likely the case.
