Sciatica pain!? |
Have any of you ever had sciatica and what did you do for it? I'm at my wits end! :( Ah yes, Andrea, the pain is so severe sometimes that I have gotten nauseous a number of times now. It is very difficult to explain the pain to people and how much it hurts. ::sniff sniff:: Sciatica is one of those pains that can't be described to someone who has never suffered from it. I used to get attacks that were so bad they made me nauseous. The last one I had was about a year ago and it resulted in a visit to the emergency room. It happened after a long car trip. The emergency doctor gave me very strong pain meds and muscle relaxants. But she also gave me a terrific tip that I swear has made my life a lot easier. She suggested that I use a soft cushion on my car seat and she also told me to try to locate the nerve that was involved. Since my sciatica starts from my butt cheek and travels down one leg, she showed me how to press on the nerve that was "throbbing" in the butt cheek. You'll actually be able to feel it (even though sometimes it takes a while to find). Apply pressure until the throbbing eases. It works for me!! I have had sciatica pain many times and there is just not that much you can do. I tried to lay down and be still as much as possible and took pain medications. Yes, I have had it, and it is a painful problem. I went to the chiropractor. It took several visits, but it helped tremendously. Now, when I feel that it's getting ready to act up, I know how to stretch it so it's not so bad. Your chiropractor should be able to show you how to do this. You could go to a physiotherapist. To cure it all depends on what is the underlying cause. Sciatica can be caused by many different reasons so to know how to cure it, you need to know whats causing it. You can try these exercises they help some people with disc problems. |
