Is this sciatica?

three weeks ago, whilst swimming, felt a dull pian in my thigh.after a week, different pains surfaced, sharp shooting pain from the top front of thigh down to knee cap, also shooting pain on outside of leg past knee to half way along shin bone and to the right of shin bone. two weeks with all these pains, found it difficult to walk. now, three weeks, walking is almost unbearable.cant put much weight on right leg, where all the pain is. im ok sitting down or in bed. havent done any exercise for 3 weeks.theres no back pain, my neck is fine,my left leg is fine.on the few occasions, when im able to walk, has to be short steps and slowly.can move my knee- no pain, can move my hip-no pain.just when i come to put weight on right leg, then the pain starts.i struggle about with a stick.my leg feels stiff. gp says, coud be sciatica and told me to go to a physio.im really fed up..if i cant walk, i wont be able to work.

Im not sure whether it is sciatica or not. Best thing to do is get a referral for a physiotherapist or other relevant specialist and get a proper diagnosis on your condition.

Trained and registered medical professionals are the only people who should be diagnosing this.

It is an inflamation of the sciatic nerve and your symptoms sound similar. I would recommend you take treatment from a registered Chiropractor. You will find local ones listed in the phone book.

Doesn't sound like it. Sciatic gives you pain from your lowerback into your bum and then down your legs - not really anything to do with the knees. It is from irritation of the sciatic nerve which runs from your lower spine down your legs.

Sounds very much like Sciatica/disc related injury to me.
Go back to your GP and demand Physio. If you don't get this looked at now it will get worse. I had a similar symtoms about 6 years ago, and I don't want to alarm you, but in the beginning my Gp didn't take things to serious and push for treatment.
4 years later I was still not working and getting an operation to get 2 discs removed. I NEVER HAD BACK PAIN

Take care

Sounds like Sciatica to me, i just had a second disc removed and had it for 3 weeks as they had irritated the nerve. See your GP if it gets worse and they may refer you to physio for a couple of months, if thats no good, they will send you to see a consultant for a scan and so on. Then they may suggest an epidural or surgery depending on the state of the disc if it is prolapsed or not and pressing on your nerve. if you are in as much pain as you say, you need to go to your GP and insit they send you for a scan directly and as soon as possible. Good Luck.

You could be mis aligned (see chiropractor) but it could also be tigger points (massage therapist) Read the book (bottom)

Much pain is from muscles below is an example of what may help (based on headaches).
Begin with a couple swigs of molasses or a couple of bananas (natural muscle relaxers) daily - magnesium (which regulates many things in the body) and potassium (a needed building block for muscles).
Drink at least 1/2 gallons of water per day. Running a body low on water is like running a car low on oil is the analogy the head of neurology at UCDavis told my husband about 10 years ago.

Now to the cause - muscles - your back, neck shoulders and head have tender spots. They are knots in the fibers of the muscles called trigger points. It makes the muscles tight which makes them press on nerves and other things causing the pain.

The cure - start with a professional massage, you will also want to go back over any place you can get to 6-12 times per session up to 6 times per day rubbing (or lightly scratching on your head) every where that is tender until the knots go away. The place where the skull connects to the spine press up under the edge of the skull (to get to those muscles).

For more information read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies. It teaches what to do and where the pain comes from.

sounds like irritation of your femoral nerve (runs down the front of your leg) i'd get yourself referred to see a physio

do as your GP tells you, there's a good lad.
