Question about Sciatica?

Again asking help for a friend of mine. He suffers from Sciatica and is going through an episode right now. If you know about what it is and what is the best way to get pain relief? I would dearly appreciate your help! Thanks :)

I've had it 4 times. It is caused by muscle spasms. I went to Dr. and about all they give is muscle relaxants and pain pills (Motrin, or X-strength Tylenol). Heat pack can help, but also laying on floor helps. Do as little walking as possible. It can bring tears to a persons eyes from the pain.
Mine felt like a pipe had been shoved down my hip to my knee with a blow torch set on high in it. It took about 2 weeks for me to be able to walk decently and another 4 to 6 weeks to go away.

I found the heat pads designed for arthritis to be very helpful (the disposable type ones). Also dont be tempted to stop moving, it prolongs the episode. Keep movements gentle and avoid lifting;

I would suggest seeing a chiropractor. Mine works wonders, but if that is not an option try putting a heat pack on it and try not to walk for a while. He might have collapsed arches that will make it worse. Again a chiropractor can tell you if you do. I don't know if this helps any but good luck!

Sciatica could be a problem with the bones in the lower back being out of place, could be from sitting on a wallet in the back pocket, or could be due to tight muscles inthe buttocks. I would consult a chiropractor in you area. They get results veryquickly andwill find the CAUSE of theproblem to correct it, not just cover it up with heat, ice, drugs, etc....

Hello! I work for a Chiropractic office, and I have also personally suffered from sciatic pain since childhood. The sciatic nerve runs from the spine, down the legs. Chiropractic treatment that involves pulling the leg muscles gently to release the pressure seems to relieve the pain, in me anyway. I don't know if your friend has any past experience with chiropractic treatments, but I advise that your friend looks into making an appointment.

I had to have major surgery to cure mine but i suffer from severe scoliosis as well..................i don't have it anymore but if i were your friend i would try a chiro or accupuncture?????????? Good luck
