I am 33. I suffered from sciatica for a year last year and I have been about 90%. Is it ok to take ballet?

I have taken 2 ballet classes this week & been stretching for months now. Is is safe to take ballet after recovering from sciatica?

While not medical professional, I can speak from experience as someone that had a herniated disk that touched the sciatic nerve for over a year and a half. I personally started taking martial arts classes and I would highly recommend any activity that involves lots of stretching. I say go for it!!

I'd say it's best to check with your doctor. And also let your ballet teacher know just so that she's aware of your condition. And in class, don't overdo it, take it slow. And remember, S-T-R-E-T-C-H

As long as you keep up with your stretching then doing ballet is fine. The things you need to avoid is anything involving prolonged sitting which puts pressure on the sciatic nerve thereby irritating the nerve.
