Does a nerve block help sciatica? |
I've had sciatica since August of '06. The doctor did an MRI and found I have a herniated disc in my lumbar spine with stenosis. The pain wakes me up at night and is horrendous in the mornings. It hurts all the way from my back to my foot (on the left side). The neurosurgeon recommended surgery, but I am scared-plus I have other health issues. My husband also has disc problems and recently had his 1st nerveblock. It helped at first but now it seems to have worn off. I'm sick of living on painkillers and constant pain. Sciatica is very painful. If I were you I would try the pain block, I dont think it would hurt to try. Why has your dr. not recommended Physical Therapy? When I had my sciatica I too Physical Therapy for about six months and it helped. But I was like you I had more problems and they helped with them some. I think that the only way you are going to get any pain relief is to have surgery. I hope that things work out for you and your husband. I will keep both of you in my prayers. thank-you for choosing my answer. Report It It does help, but as you saw with your husband, it does wear off over time. I have it too as a result of scoliosis and a car accident. The nerve blocks work better the longer you go to the same dr. Mine explained it is a trial and error process to determine the best place for the nerve block. You might ask around about a doctor; back surgery can work, but you want to get the best doctor you can find. Some are much better at it than others. I was about go to bed when I saw this. I use an anti-inflammatory juice called xango. It has helped me with joint problems, where other remedies did not. It is 100% natural, but is expensive. A month supply for me is U$25, and I only drink about an ounze a day. Oh !! how awful for you, I sympathize with anyone suffering with back pain and ETC: I can not imagigine hat you are going through even though I myself do have some of the probems you are talking about, I don't know if there is any info here that can help you, but you can check it out.. |
