What is the best way to make school dinners more healthier?

What do you really mean? More healthy, or healthier?

Stop giving kids the option!!! If you put a cheese burger and a salad next to each other.. the kids gonna pick the burger aint they??
So give then pizza day Or something but try to mix it up!!

Vegetarian diet is better for the mind and body it's a fact and it taste great too.

There should be fresh fruits and vegetables. Most school dinners that do include fruits and veggies used the canned versions which are either laden with extra sodium and preservatives, or thick, heavy syrup. Not good!! They should substitute brown rice for white rice, and serve only lean meats and poultry--not corn dogs!

stop serving chips with everything. fresh fruit and veg is the order of the day.

Hi alot off schools in the essex area have healthy eating now thanks to jamie oliver.My 9 yr old daughter go to leigh north street in leigh the food has been healthy for nearly 2 years now and the kids are enjoying it.First the older children did moan about the healthy option they wanted all the chips,twislers etc bck,now they have got used to it and love it.Eating plenty off fruit,salads,rice,pasta etc is always on the menu and the food is all home cooked now none off this canned and frozen rubbish.Also they have a theme day once a wk which is also a healthy option.

Are you talking about the ones they serve or the ones you pack?
It's very near to impossible to get a healthy meal from the ones they serve. These school dieticians seem to get their diplomas from a mail order diploma mill, because the diet offered consists mainly of starches, sugars and salt, with very little in the way of nutrition. I used to go over the menu with my child and tell her which of the choices she could have. Didn't work very well. She still overate to the point that she was 170 lbs at the age of 12, and only 4ft 8in. She ate the right things, but lots of it. No kid in her school ever had to eat their own spinach!

if its school dinners buy fresh fruit &veg,you can do things like homemade soup with brown bread or rolls or stir fry,thats were you would put all veg into a wok & stir fry like you would any stir fry.you could also steam the veg and give with chicken.as for fruit make things like fruit salads.

use fresh vegetables, dont use oil use extra virgin olive oil, dont put too much saLT IN THEM

plenty of fresh salads, vegetables, meats, pastas, fruit etc, and don't have say chips on offer at the same time

Enlist the local community in providing fresh fruit and veg and bring back cookery lessons, kids are more likely to eat what they make, if its fun it could also educate towards healthy eating!!

give them brown bread with tuna and sweetcorn and for pudding a piece of fruit
