Preventing cavities with those purple pills from the school nurse...what were they??

Remember back in grade school when the health nurse taught us all to brush our teeth? She had these little purple pills that you had to chew up. Once they were chewed, they left purple coloring on the teeth that you didn't brush well enough.

What were those pills called? Can you buy them in the store???? I want some of them for my 5 year old who doesn't do a very good job at brushing his teeth.

They are called disclosing tablets and yes, you can buy them at the store

hmmm i might be wrong but isnt that wot u give a dog???

those little pills were flouride and yes you can pick them up at some pharmacies. They just make the teeth stronger

WELL IN 1980 OUR NURSE GAVE US THOSE BUT I THINK THEY WERE VALIUM

I'm not sure of what they're called, maybe just plaque pills. Try your dentist??

They have a mouthwash for that but i am not sure what it is called

hmm purple pill

its NEXIUM
its like anti cholestorol meds or somehting...

flouride

They were for dogs. So, dont get them unless your son is a dog. Nurses can never be trusted.

There's actually a mouthwash out that does the same thing. I think listerine makes it. I saw it a Walmart.

yup

you can buy them in a store...just ask your pharmicist for them..they can be bought at cvs on the dental floss/tooth brush aisle..they can also be given to you by your child's dentist...

or ask you childs school nurse for them....

All they did was show plaque. Unless you had just come from the dentist after a cleaning (and sometimes even if you had), they always stained your teeth. So, really, it was just a lie, because it made everyone feel like they weren't taking care of their teeth, even if they were.

you are a crafty mom you ever jsut try beating him?
or just try hiveign him stuff for brushing his teeth

Sorry I don't know the name but thanks for the trip down memory lane

THEY were pink and they showed the plaque on your teeth. check with an older dentist to see if they can remember. these people still come out to the schools for cavity day, maybe you can find out then. OR go to the American Dental Association for more info.

There is this new Listerine Blue Pro (or something like that) that does the exact same thing, except, instead of being a pill, it's actually a mouthwash that is much easier to use and doesn't require swallowing purple dyes. It colors in the teeth that have plaque on them so that children know where to brush and it's easier for parents to monitor their kids' brushing habits.
It should be sold in your local pharmacy so try Duane Reade, CVS, Rite Aid, Walgreen's, etc. and shouldn't cost more than $4 - 5.

i remember those little pills ... my mom used to buy them all the time too ... http://www.dental-mart.com/plaqdistab.ht...

they also have a mouthwash that is essentially the same thing ... http://www.pfizerch.com/product.aspx?id=...

hope this helps :o)

They had a weird taste and now thanks to you I will be craving them all night

They only prevented cavities indirectly by revealing unbrushed areas. They were merely disclosing dye.
This should help. Listerine has just released a product for children called Agent Code Blue which comes in mint or bubblegum flavors. It comes with a DVD to show them how to use it. Basically, you rinse 30 sec with it then spit out. Then you brush until you see no more blue! I think the pkg says for 6 and up, so they don't swallow it.
Best part: Until the end of July you can get it free with a rebate from Walgreen's.
Hope this helps.

I studied in dental hygien...those pills were used to show the kids if they were brushing their teeth right or not. If they had purple stuff left on their teeth, it meant that they had plaque left. Plaque is the reason why you get cavities: we all have bacterias called streptococcus mutans in the mouth wich will go on your plaque. When you give them sugar, they secrete an acid wich will cause the cavities.
I think you can buy those pills at the pharmacy. If not, ask your dentist

That was a mixture of powdered cactus flowers, milk of magnesia, ammonium nitrate, vinegar, dioxin, asbestos, plutonium and DDT. They have taken it off the market finally thank god, after so many children who ate them developed lycanthropy and vampirism.

They are Disclosing Tablets you should be able to get them at the Drug Store
