Is my work effecting my health? |
I have just started a new job in the city just three weeks ago. Since I have started I have been really ill, I've the flu and I'm not talking about a cold I am talking about full blown flu, I have had an old car accident injury occur which makes my arm and hand go numb and my neck and back are in so much pain and just over the past week I am finding it really painful to walk, from my hips into my toes are so sore. I'm not sure it's the same thing, but it could be psychosematic due to your unconcious mind not being comfortable in the surroundings you're now working in. Any change in environment can make you sick. You never know if there is lead paint, asbestos insulation, etc. Talk to your doc. It could very well be effecting your health. It is AFFECTING your spelling. Not sure if there's any truth in it, but years ago, I moved a couple of hundred miles and for the first year I was constantly sick with colds, ear infections etc. My GP in the new place said it was really common when you enter 'unchartered' territory, as your body has a whole new load of bugs and germs to encounter and build up an immunity to. It is a possibility. It sounds like you have an pinched nerve in your back and it does not help when you are hunched in front of a computer or a desk all day. I recommend you go see a chiropractor, so they can readjust your back. Is something else causing you stress, besides work? The reason why I ask is because obviously your immune system is weak, but there are definitely some other factor that is causing you to be ill. I would go to see a doctor, because you never know it could be something really serious. I would say possibly yes if you have a difficult and stressful job... mine is both, and I am permanently exhausted and sore. You should get your work station checked for health and safety. Make sure that your chair is the right height etc. Your personnel department should help with this. Even if you work for a small company - they will need to ensure that your station meets the standards. If you are not used to working in an office it will take a time to adjust - sitting for a long time in the same position can sometimes take it's toll. Make sure that you get up and walk around as much as possible and take regular breaks. Also offices can be a breeding ground for germs and colds and flu are easy to catch at work!. Keep the windows open is possible and have natural light wherever possible. |
