Schizophrenia and Marijuana? |
I was recently diagnosed with Schizophrenia 2 days ago. I am not on medication yet but I have no idea what I will be taking. No, genius. Marijuana causes psychosis. No. woah.. thats really odd for your brother to be on MJ. As far as I know, MJ in this day and age is much harsher than the MJ of our parents' past, and is actually bred with the same plant that produces PCP, which induces schizophrenic/schizotypal hallucinations. 'I would get a second opinion first of all, about this diagnosis. This is a voice in your head speaking. You can hear me, but can't see me...yet. I'm going to be the most honest voice you've ever heard before. I'm gonna tell you things that'd make your skin crawl, and you're going to believe it's really happening to you. You're going to watch Number 23 with Jim Carrey in it, and it's going to freak you out. And if you smoke pot, my voice is the only one you'll hear! I've never heard of that. Paradoxically, marijuana can make someone who's susceptible more prone to a schizophrenic episode. Marijuana is not prescribed to treat Schizophrenia, it is a psychotic, and would most likely make Schizophrenic tendencies worse. No.. I used to smoke pot, and it messed me up pretty bad.. I have Schizophrenia, for 16 years now and for 2 years I smoked pot, I ended up more psychotic and verbally aggressive.. Marijuana is not prescribed for schizophrenia. If anything, it'd make the symptoms a lot worse. You'll be prescribed an anti-psychotic. Each is different, so if the first doesn't do it for you, don't be apprehensive about trying another. I did my internship at a mental health facility and I can tell you for a fact that marijuana would not be prescribed for individuals with schizophrenia. Actually, marijuana contrary to popular belief has a certain level of dependence and does attribute to drug-induced psychosis, which I have watched many patients come in and out of the wards under the influence of marijuana. Using meth or marijuana will significantly increase the development of psychosis and schizophrenia. The drugs boost levels of several chemicals, including dopamine in the brain, which directly lead to schizophrenic & psychotic symptoms. Please don't do this. I have a relative who is currently under suicide watch...and he, too, tried to use the marijuana and later meth to feel better. I know there is a lot of pain and suffering inside of you and you just want to feel better, but it will only make you worse in the long-run. Stick to your doctor and the legal drugs...and ask for help the right way :) that depends? I am a marijuana advocate but in the case of schizophrenia i think there may be better alternatives. just see what works best for you! And if that happens to be weed then blaze it up! |
