I have Schizophrenia, is it curebale?

I have Schizophrenia. Which cause me Hallucinations, Delusions, Altered emotions, Disorganized thinking. I am on abilify right now which is the medicine that cures me. I been on medication for about a year. The thing is i smoked p#t. Is it possible i had side effects from smoking it, and the conditon i have is from pot not Schizophrenia. The thing is my doctor said i have to take medication for long time, but not rest of my life. Any body know how long it takes to get off medication if you smoked p#t.

Schizophrenia happens because your brain is having trouble with a particular chemical called dopamine. If the pot you smoked was sprayed with a pesticide, or was mixed with a hallucinogenic drug, it is possible that some of your symptoms could be caused by the pot. However, it is unlikely.

A lot of how long you will have to take your medication depends on your age at the onset of schizophrenia. The older you are when you have your first symptoms, the less likely you are to have to take medication for the rest of your life (generally speaking).

I wish you lots of luck.

no, it is not cureable. you will have it for the rest of your life. your doctor is right, you will need to be on medication for a very long time, if not forever, if you want to live a normal life

sorry its in-curable but manageable via psychiatry and medications only a doctor can make decisions for you and please don't take advice here because it will just confuse you all the more, Keeping a open dialect with your doctor will be best for you. Don't be ashamed to say anything you want that's what they are there for to give you the best treatment.

This is why pot is bad. You should have listened to all them people that say that it really does mess with your mind.

Schizoprenia isn't very curable and your doctor was right.

not necessarily cureable but it IS treatable.

Curable? NO. Manageable? YES. Did you tell your doctor you smoke weed? It could alter the effectiveness of any meds you are on.

Nothing cures schizophrenia, rather your symptoms are treatable which helps to suppress your dementia. If you have permanent brain damage then it is possible you will have to take medication for the rest of your life.
If you are of age, then I would think you would have right to decide whether to take your medication or not. Although, if some doctors believe you are a harm to yourself or others, they can intervene with the court of law and order you to take medicine or order you to have a medical guardian/power of attorney.

It's really sad that you are facing this problem.

A doctor diagnosed me with Schizophrenia about two years ago. My head is often full of morbid thoughts and I have persecution delusions. Anger also disturbs me. I stopped taking my medication at the start of this year, although I was taking a very low dose, and having even stopped treatment, I have been fine. I did smoke pot for a long time, and that makes me wonder if the diagnosis is wrong. Some say that pot reduces adult motivation that is a symptom of schizophrenia. I believe pot does have a significant impact on human emotions, and I question how much of my "sad" feelings are in fact attributable to long-term heavy pot use. It is probably in your interests is to forget pot, to hide the fact you ever smoked it from your doctor, and to make yourself secure as possible to cope with a difficult condition. Aim for two years off medication and see yourself functioning after that.

I think the answers here are a little harsh. Your illness needs medication and support. Thats right. On the other hand people suffer from depression tend to have another. If someone has 2 depressions it is very likely that will have 3. So we all deal with somethings, yours is a little more unknown thats all. Time of medication can change. Keep in touch with your doc even you feel better.

The symptoms of schizophrenia are curable but the underlying disease is not. What does that mean? It means if you had the flu and took theraflu and it cured every single symptom of the flu then you feel just as healthy as you would if you didn't have it. The flu virus would still be in your body, but you wouldn't really care a whole lot because you feel fine. See? Besides, it's the symptoms that people hate, not that they have a few germs in them.

Can pot cause schizophrenia? I was reading something about that and the jury is still out on that one. If it doesn't than it can cause some of the symptoms of it in some people. You might have just got a hold of a bad bag, or maybe just quit smoking the stuff.
