Is schizophrenia a harm concept?

Campaign for Abolition of the Schizophrenia Label is a campaing launched in 2006 in England which wants the extinguishing of the term "schizophrenia" as a "harm concept". Do you agree?

what's a "harm concept"? idk but i'm down with abolishing the labeling of schizophrenia.

i think all schizo's are really psychics or mystics whose upbriging was such that it stifled their abilities. the negative, destructive, harmful nature of society is what causes schizo's positive powers to manifest into negative psychosis.

Can you tell I'm diagnosed? lol. But really I think it's true.

The last two times I was in the psych ward it was like I could read minds with all these other people there. Or like people who were totally mentally retarded would utter out these certain words which would be exactly related to something I'd be thinking about. We could talk to each other sounding like we were saying complete nonsense, but to us it all makes sense.

I don't care if people believe that or not. But I know for a fact it's true. I've been keeping track of all the evidence and exact examples and I'm going to put out a book one day.

I'm not sure what a "harm concept" is, but it seems pretty pointless to me.

People with Schizophrenia are still going to be seriously mentally ill if you call it something else.

Sometimes labels are necessary so that those afflicted with the illness can receive the services that they need.

While schizophrenia certainly has a negative connotation, mental health pros need to be able to diagnose and label in order to treat to the best of their abilities.

Like the previous answer said, call it whatever you want the reality is that schizophrenia is a serious illness that needs treatment. If you called it "daisy disease'' then there would have to a be a massive education of police, health care staff, doctors, families about what that was so to provide the right treatment and care to the patient. So it would be a big step backwards in compassion and understanding.

I think this may be a good question, in that I think it should be labeled a #1, 2, 3or 4 I think a good DR can find out if that person is one who can cause harm or a danger to self or others. I think I agree with that concept only knowing there are certain levels or triggers and also meds for it. So my answer is yes but with a level of the degree to cause harm if NO then the person should not carry the label.
