Is Schizophrenia treatable?

I have seen movies with characters suffering from schizophrenia. I always feel terrible when I see people who have this kind of disorder because they seem like to have no control of themselves. Can people with schizophrenia be treated?

Yes yes it can be treated of course by rehabilitation and by encouraging the patient to have self esteem that the patient will need but the best med for this is that patient understand the true realm of the society.

schizophrenia, hearingand/or seeing what is not there, is caused by a chemical imbalance within the brain. medication is used to treat the problem, but no actual cure is known at this time.

Yes it is treatable but it takes time to get them on the right meds and getting them adjusted. My grandmother is schizophrenic. She is on a ton of medicine that helps alot, but she still has moments where she hears voices. The voices are always mean. It's such a sad disease. One time her voices told her she couldn't walk and every time she got up, she would fall to the floor. Alot of times it's hard to treat because they don't realize that the voices they are hearing are part of the disease. They think it is real because to them, they really hear it. If the voices tell them they don't need medicine then they will quit taking it and it starts all over again. It's sucha complex disease - that's why it's hard to treat - but yes, it can be treated.

schizo is treatable but it is not curable. there are medicine to help the symptoms but highly likely this disorder will never go away. their minds become split apart not split personalities. schizophrenia is a hard disorder to cope with as they try to seek help with psychologists.

Yes, it can be control by drug and it is sad. I had one client who was a schizophrenia and he was on prescription drug. He came and told me that he heard voices about someone is trying to kill him. I urge him to come and talk to me every 15 minutes and I did it about 8 months. In the end he was doing well and he did not have to come in every 15 minutes to see me for 4-5 hours every day.Well he got sick of my reversed psychology.

Some can be treated with drugs. The problem is the drugs for it are very harsh. Most people on a drug treatment tell me they would rather be the way they were before the drugs. So if you know someone who has it please read the labels on the drugs the pdoc gives and most of them have bad side effects. Most common side effect is massive weighed gain, like over 100 pds in less than a yr.

It is treatable and depending on the severity, people can make a complete recovery. It's generally treated with anti-psychotic drugs, along with other psychological and social interventions, I believe. Like most psychological disorders you can't treat it with medication alone.

It's fairly misrepresented in the movies, and just in general. You might feel better about it if you did a bit of research and found the real facts.

yes of course, with the right medication and support...but they MUST take the medication constantly and not skip a dose because they get withdrawal symptoms and lose control again....it is a very scary illness, but it can be successfully treated! =)
