Scars on face from excision?

About 6 months ago i had a couple of skin tags removed from face, one from side of cheek and one on forehead. Its was removed by excision and stitched up using the finest of threads. The scars have improved slightly from the start but are till red. How long will it take for these scars to mature. The face does not look matural to me. Its embarrassing walking around for 6 months with red scars on face. Generally i have good health and was wondering if they dont improve are there any remedy out there to improved the scars since i know they cant completely get rid of. Please advise me. Anybody been in similar situation.

Pick up some Mederma at a local store, start applying it twice a day to the scars.
Over a period of a couple months, you'll see the scars lighten.
At that point, you can switch over to once a day at bedtime.
(It works better if started within a month of the scarring, after it is well healed, but will still help now.)
