Does sunlight worsen scars? |
I have scars on my face from acne. The scars are only discolorations, though. If I stay out in the sun all day, like at the beach, will the scars worsen? I'm not concerned about the acne, just about the scars. Typically scars don't tan so when the unblemished skin tans, it seems to high light scars. You might opt for dermabraison or a peel. See what a dermatologist would suggest. There are satisfactory treatments. Good Luck... You should go to the doctors ?? The sun is actually better as you'll tan more and hide the scars. Just wear a sun screen so you tan, not burn! Scar tissue that I have doesn't doesn't really tan. So when I go in the sun, the skin surrounding the scars burns/tans, which makes the scar stand out more. You should ALWAYS use sunscreen when outdoors. Scars that leave light marks won't tan. They are missing the layer of dermis that contains melinin. Scars that leave dark marks are a different story. Sunlight won't hurt a them, but it can cause them to darken and appear more noticeable. You can use a product that contains hydroquinone to fade the spots. They are sold in health and beauty sections of most stores. You can also use natural products to lighten the discoloration (hyper-pigmentation). There is a line of products called DDF (run a search online). They have natural acids and are safe for sensitive skin. Light (whitish) scars need to be treat by a dermatoligist, and can probably only be diminished. I'm afraid scars don't tan. Only the skin around the scar darkens, which might give the illusion of the scars being worse. Ask your doctor about some good skin cream to keep your skin from tanning at all. |
