What area of the world did Scarlet fever originate from?, and what is the degree of damage caused by it? Scarlet fever is caused by a bacteria called group A streptococcus (GAS). It produces several exotoxins of which 2 (known as SSPE A and C) causes scarlet fever. This is basically a generalized rash that occurs in several areas of the body. It is also one of the 6 child hood causes of exanthum(rash). It is also known as Scarlatina (from the Italian scarlattina). Infections are common in children because they do not have antibodies against the exotoxins. |
