Anyone have children that have had Scarlet Fever? |
My 4 year old grand daughter was just diagnosed with it. I need to know how contagious it is, did any of you get it from your child? I had scarlet fever when I was 5 yrs. old, it, for the most, it usually only affects small children and is highly contagious to them , but can be transmitted to them from an adult that is in direct contact with someone who has it, so stay away from other children until your child is completely cured. An adult doesn't get it because their immune system is so much stronger than a child's. It usually only attacks children between the ages of 1 to 10 yrs. of age.The only way it can affect an adult is if they are elderly and have a weak immune system and/or liver and/or kidney problems. My daughter had really bad strep throat that caused a rash all over her body...that's basically scarlet fever (from what I've read). It's just like strep--which can be very dangerous if left untreated. I didn't get it from my daughter. Scarlet fever is bascially strep throat plus a rash. It is contagious, but after a few days of being on antibiotics she shouldn't be contagious, as long as the symptoms are going away too. Its caused by a certain type step bacteria. My brother had it and at the time I was pregnant. I did not get it. Years later my son had it and I did not get it neither did his sister or brother. |
