As in the Velveteen Rabbit, do they still burn toys/belongings if you have a sickness like Scarlet Fever?

I remember being terrified as a kid that if I got really sick, the doctors would make me burn and destroy all my toys to get rid of the germs. In the Velveteen Rabbit, they sent the kid away to get better, and burned all his belongings to disinfect the nursery. I know things have changed a lot since the story was written in 1922, but I've wondered how things like this are handled now.

We can effectlively disinfect and sterilize things now. The wonders of Chlorox...great stuff...kills germs.

However, in countries with limited access to medical care or little resources, personal belongings may still be burned to destroy any chance of further infection. Corpses can be burned too, rather than buried.

However, biohazard waste is routinely incinerated even today. It's the only way we can be sure that those same items never again somehow get back into circulation (needles, other sharps, blood collection tubes, IV bags and so on)...items that are meant to be used only once and then destroyed.
