Has any one ever heard of having scarlatina rash with out having scarlet fever?

It is not me it is my son and I took him to the doctor and she said it was a scarlatina rash and she checked his throat and said it was fine but couldn't explain it other than that he just got the rash instead of any of the other sysmtoms....
