Scabies Question? |
In my house, 5 out of 6 people have scabies. We have all gotten the treatment from the doctor but I have a couple more questions the doctor did not bring up like do I have to clean everything? All of my clothes that I have put away? All the seats? Do I sterilize the house? How do I take care of this so the scabies do not keep getting back into our systems? I agree with tlbrown42000. It is like she says little spider like parasites that live, reproduce and die under your skin. You probably see little lines of the inflammed skin--that would be their burrows. After you use the medication you will get worse itching as they are dying and their dead bodies is what really itches the worst. Washing everything is a good idea but probably not a factor in reinfecting everyone--you get it from skin to skin contact. Also known as the "7-year itch". However, our outbreak did not last 7 years and yours probably won't either. Hang in there you're doing the right things. i would This site might help: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scabies Check this website. Wash everything in hot water and use lysol disinfectant on door knobs, toilet seats, carpet or anything in contact with hands. Yes everything need to be cleaned and sterilized, stuffed animals need to go into black garabage bags for a month. I would get some Enbac or Lysol but makes sure that it kills everyhting not just germs. Everything even curtains need to be washed. I worked in a care home with two out breaks of scabies. As a healthcare provider I tell my patients that everyone in the house usually has to be treated to keep from passing it back and forth. Clothing that has been recently worn along with bedsheets and towels just need washed in the washing machine. Scabies like to live on people. So the clothes and bedsheets may have some if recently have been next to someone with scabies. It usually takes direct contact. Anything other than that does not necessarily have to be 'disinfected'. Scabies is a tiny bug that likes to live and burrow under the skin of humans. You are not getting them 'in your system'........ just under your skin. At the same time you are all using the Lindane or whatever you have, wash and dry all bedding, clothing and towels with hot water and the high heat setting on the dryer. Items that cannot be washed and dried can be placed in sealed plastic bags and stored for a minimum of 7 days to allow time for the mites and eggs to die. Vacuum furniture drapes and bedding. There's no need to use pesticides in your own. Wash all clothing, towels, and bed linens in hot water. Do not allow air drying. You should use the dryer. |
