Scabies in a child?

My step son has been here 9 days and has been itching horribly everyday. We finally got him an appointment here with his doctor here and found out he has scabies.
He had this before he came and both his mother and his grandmother "forgot" to mention that he had it. Now I give them the benefit of the doubt that they didn鈥檛 know it was scabies, because neither one had taken him to a doctor.
My husband found out that his mother didn鈥檛 take him to the doctor, she was simply washing him with Anti-Bacteria dish soap (yes I said dish soap) and washing his sheets everyday, and that this has been happing for some time now.
She knows I have other children here, mine and my husbands 3 girls and my other daughter, but didn鈥檛 care to inform anyone.
How can a mother let her child just sit there and itch himself into a frenzy (I say this cause he has spots that were just simply tore up) and not take him to a doctor? What can we do besides take care of him while he is here for another 3 days?

you all need to be washed from head to foot with lidane to prevent it spreading
benedryl for itch
there is also a topical cream your doctor can order for the rash

The rash that is seen with scabies is actually an allergic reaction to the scabies mite and its eggs and droppings.

Scabies spreads through prolonged skin to skin contact, and so is more common in kids in daycare or school, or family members of a person with scabies.

Pets don't become infected with the same mite that infects people. They get a different mite that can't survive on humans and only causes a rash for a few days that goes away without any treatment.

Itching may continue for 2-3 weeks after scabies is successfully treated, although you shouldn't see new bumps or burrows after being treated.

All close contacts of a person with scabies should also be treated at the same time, even if they aren't showing symptoms yet.

Norwegian or crusted scabies is a severe form of this infestation that is most commonly seen in people with a weakened immune system.

It takes about 10 days for a mite's eggs to hatch and become adult mites, which can lay eggs and continue the cycle.

*****Lindane, which used to be the primary treatment for scabies, is rarely used now because of the risk of serious side effects.
