Why is scabies hard to diagnose? and how do you get it?

I went to 3 allergenists and two family doctors before the last doctor said I had scabies. He told me the disease is contagious in which tiny bugs actually live in your skin. He said they also originate from sheep. i contracted the disease through my brother who got it from his dorm in college (go figure). I got a lotion and it went away the next day...it drove me crazy itching for over 2 weeks. Anyone else have stories or can comment on scabies

It is definately contagious and is passed from person to person very easily...if you've been around anyone and touched them you've probably given it to others and should tell them and then watch out for another break out. Scabies starts out as just something that looks like a rash, but you think after singling out other things they would have caught it earlier..? Scabies rash generally starts from the middle of the body (like stomach or chest) and spreads out from there. And if it did with you and you told them where it started you think they would've known.

I had went to my family Dr and they told me I had psoriasis. I went to a dermatologist and I have had scabies for 10 months! Report It

I was taking Benadryl for the itching! The dermatologist gave me a prescription for the itching! Report It

The dermatologist scraped my skin and looked under a microscope to find the tiny little mites in my skin. I have done nothing but itch for 10 months. I thought it was just psoriasis. Report It

Scabies is hard to diagnois because it mimics other forms of dermatitis when the outbreak first occurs. It is very contagious, and is spread by person to person contact, sharing bedsheets, etc. Even though you may feel like it went away the next day, it is a good idea to repeat the treatment (kwell/lindaine) again a week after the first time, as well as wash all bedding, towels, and other personal items to rid the mites.
.....Just a suggestion..........
