Has anyone ever had scabies?

What was it like? What did it look like?

My seven year old son broke out with what we thought was the chicken pox on the 18th of September.

Long story short, they kept telling us that is was the chicken pox, don't bring him in he's because he would be contagious yet they never went away. So today I finally took him in and they mentioned scabies, yet in the end they don't know what it is. We are seeing specialist tomorrow.

Anyone with a history or a story to tell about scabies?

Scabies are little mites that dig their way under the skin. They itch like crazy and cause little bumps. These bumps are usually pretty close together and start in one place and spread from there.

Scabies are VERY contageous. They are more active at night which makes the itching worse at night and makes the patient more contageous at night as well.

The specialist will be able to make a definite decision and if you ARE dealing with scabies, they will give you a topical ointment that you are going to have to apply head to toe frequently. You will also have to wash anything that your child came into contact with in VERY hot water.

Parasite
It is a form of mange....like a dog would have. They pop up through your skin, especially at night when the body settles. It just itches and yes, it is contagious. If this is the case, a special cream has to be applied from the neck down and bleach all of the bed clothes.

do this at home (if no medications):
-Wash all clothing, towels, and bed linens in hot water. Do not allow air drying. You should use the dryer.

-Use the medication as prescribed and instructed. Do not use it more than instructed because you risk causing chemical irritation of your skin.

-You can also treat itching with antihistamine medications such as diphenhydramine or (Benadryl). (I think that how you spell it)

-Cut your nails and clean under them thoroughly to remove any mites or eggs that may be present.

-Vacuum your rugs, furniture, and bedding and throw the vacuum cleaner bag away when finished.

Also: Follow your doctor's instructions for prescription anti-scabies agents, if prescribed for you.

Yes, I had a case of scabies once. I worked at an intermediate care facility and I got a case of them. They itch like CRAZY. The facility I worked at gave me an ointment to put on my body. I had to put it on myself from head to toe. I also had to wash every bit of clothes and bed linen that I had. Nasty stuff(but curable)! I finally got rid of it though. There were some of the staff at the facility that I worked at that took one pill and that took care of it. The specialist you go see should be able to give you the best course of action to take.
