Ewings sarcoma?

does anybody here have or know somebody that has or did have a type of cancer called ewings sarcoma? my best friend was diagnosed with it in january, she had a tumor in her brain (i'm not sure of the size) and the cancer had not spread. i was just wondering about your situation and how sick you/that person got, and do you have any information on this type of cancer?

Ewings Sarcoma is a very rare cancer. There is about 450 cases diagnosed per year. It also is a type of cancer that usually appears in children during growing cycle. Also, it is more common in long bones, pelvis, abdomen and chest. Ewings is caused by the way your chromosomes divide (I'm not exactly sure which numbers though). I was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma in 1999. My tumor was located in my left distal tibia which led to a below the knee amputation. I was very lucky because mine did not spread. My chemo regimen was very aggressive. I had seventeen chemo treatments which lasted a little over a year. The tumor did shrink before my surgery. The surgery was also my decision. I could have had radiation for an extended period of time and serious reconstrustion surgery on my leg but there was still no guarantee the surgery would have worked because an infection could have set in leading to an amputation anyway. Personally, I did not get to sick from the chemo. There were times when I was nauseted and actually got sick to my stomach, sometimes after the five day treatments. I had five day treatments rotating with one day treatments of 21 days. However, I did loose all my hair on my entire body. Please tell your friend that Ewings is curable and I would also get a second opion if she hasn't already done so. I was treated at the Cleveland Clinic. The Cleveland Clinic is absolutely a wonderful place and have tremendous trust in the doctors and complete staff. I was always treated well and with a positive outlook. I was very scared myself. I was 24 years old than and now 31 and so far cancer free. I put my complete faith in god and my family and friends, which I truly know got me through the roughest and scariest time of my life.

Most notably this cancer is found in the leg or ankle. It is usually found after an injury like a sprain and it does not heal.
The most famous case is Terry Fox. There are other cases where the outcome is better than his. The Cancer Society will have information on this cancer and what it means.

I knew a kid with Ewing's Sarcoma(left leg) he was diagnosed in 1993 don't know if the odds have gotten any better but they gave him a 50/50 chance(after they removed his leg). Then he went through chemotherapy. It must have been rough for him but he got through it +13 years later he has graduated college and is sucessfully making it out in the real world.
I don't know how they treat ES on the brain-radiation or surgery?(probably not chemo)
