How can I tell if my rat has a sarcoma tumor or mammory tumor?

My vet looked at my 2 1/2 yr old male rat yesterday and said it looked as if my rat has a sarcoma tumor on his leg probably attached to the knee cap. He never did any test though. I looked at some pictures on the net of mammory tumors and sarcoma tumors and they look a like. I was so upset I did not ask him any questions. He told me to think about getting the leg and tumor removed and give him a call. How can I tell the difference between the two kinds of tumors by looking? I don't really want to remove his leg but I do want to remove the tumor. I have to do something with him by tomorrow. If he has a sarcoma tumor I am thinking I have to remove his leg and tumor. If he has a mammory tumor I just have to remove the tumor. Is this right? I have to take him back to the vet tomorrow, help!

Get it biopsied.
