HELP!!! Could this be a tendon sheath tumor or soft tissue sarcoma????

I have this mass growing on my finger. I went to the doctor and got an xray. It just showed up as swelling around the joint on my right ring finger. They said it is likely to be a tendon sheath tumor. But I was reading online and it could possibly be a soft tissue sarcoma. How does cancer show on an xray?? Could that be what it is? How often do soft tissue sarcomas occur on fingers? I'm really freaking out right now and I would really appreciate a response from someone who knows about these things. The mass on my finger has grown significantly in the past six months. I have to go to a hand specialist within the next few weeks. Someone please help me. Also, the mass on my finger doesnt really hurt unless pushed on in a certain way. I know it isnt affecting the bone at all, but then I read about soft tissue sarcomas and now I am freaking out... Someone please help me out before I go nuts.

In 6 months time it has grown from a small half-pea sized growth to now taking over almost the whole area of the joint

It would be unusual for it to be a sarcoma and be present for six months without pain, fever, malaise and other typical symptoms of cancer. Still, you should not have waited once the growth had been obvious past a month or two, but of course you know that by now. Now you get to enjoy the terror of waiting to find out if you have a nothing or something worse. You need to get an evaluation as soon as possible. You will go nuts until you find out what is going on. It's human nature. been there, done that

You might ask your referring physician to help you get an MRI done now so you will already have this available when you see the hand specialist.

You might call the hand Dr's appt. desk each morning and ask if they have any cancellations for the day. If you are polite, learn the appt. person's name and volunteer to be available at any time for an appt. then often they will work you in at a sooner time.

Your problem is not necessarily cancer so do not count yourself dead just yet. The human mind can create pure torture so try and be easy on yourself until you are sure you really have something to worry about. This is always much easier said than done. good luck

The fact that the mass on your finger is growing is cause for concern. You are wise to have this checked out as soon as possible. And, yes, it could be a soft tissue sarcoma, or one of several other types of cancer, or it could be a benign tumor, no one really will know until you have it evaluated. Unfortunately, you will need to wait for a definitive diagnosis.

There is information available about benign and malignant tumors of the hand and fingers:

Malignant Hand Tumors

Initial Evaluation of tumors of hand

There really is no way of knowing right now what you have. You can read more about benign and malignant tumors of the phalanx . . or just wait until you see your doctor.

Stay strong and best wishes.

ill Pray you to get well soon... i hope after this a few hours later or tomorrow.. your worried is no more..
