My mother was diag/ w SARCOMA..Will she die?

No one here can answer that question. However, there is much your mother can do to increase her chances for survival.

Sarcoma is a rare type of cancer, but one that we are quite familiar with. The very first thing your mother needs to do is find out the exact name of the sarcoma and its stage and location. There are over 60 subtypes of sarcoma and all require a different type of treatment.

Next, it is critical that your mother be treated by a sarcoma specialist or at a Sarcoma Center. Many times if this is not possible, a patient can be examined at a sarcoma center and than a treatment plan can be done at the home based hospital under a regular oncologist. Make sure your mother is being seen by a sarcoma specialist.

Once you know if she has a bone sarcoma or a soft tissue sarcoma than she should join one of the Sarcoma email groups and meet other sarcoma patients. There is also a discussion board where she can ask questions at the Sarcoma Alliance.

You are not alone.

There are many kinds of sacoma. I would find a specialist. Someone who sees these cases.

Also i would get a PET/CT scan before they operate. they only get one shot at this and they need to be accurate.

i follow many patients with sarcoma that are healthy years after surgery.

good luck

Everyone would die one day...
Its only a matter of time...
This is the way of life....
May god bless your mum....

Pray to Saint Jude he will help you and your mother through this difficult time.

I'm a Liposarcoma 4 year survivor and had a huge mass in my leg. It was 6" by 4" and low grade. A lot depends on the grade/stage. There are several types of Sarcomas and yes, it HAS to be treated by a specialist. My specialist was incredible. He was through a university hospital and they were incredible. Remember that there is so much hope and that cancer doesn't have to be a death sentence. Just make sure that your mother gets to a specialist. I had to drive an hour and a half each way, but it was worth it.
