Is it safe to eliminate salt and sugar completely from your diet?

Ok so I dont eat food with salt.I dont eat seafood as I am allergic to it and I am also a vegetarian.I grew up eating steamed food so saltless food dont bother me.I have been told on more than one occasion by friends and doctors that I need some salt in my system.I have tried eating food cooked with sea salt and it did not help.I found that the food tasted salty.I dont eat out for this reason as I always find the food unbearable to eat because of the salt in it.Even if it is in low levels.I just cant help it.

It kind of sares me now as more and more people are telling me that I need to use salt.I bought a bag of chips and took one week to eat it out.[An individual pack of it].Salt almost killed me,lol.

I was thinking that since I dont consume salted food maybe I should stop eat sugar stuff also to kind of balance it off.Does this make sense atall?lol.I really would like to know what to do and how I could try getting salt in my system.[shiver]

Thanks guys.

btw-Im 22 if that helps any and I exercise every other day and drink lots of fluids.I also try not to use cooking oil as often as I can.I eat very healthy.

Hey Chara, whats up? How yuh goin? Long time I eh hear from all yuh lol.

No, its not healthy to eliminate salt and sugar from your diet. Too much and too little can cause problems. Im taking a medical science class in school this year and learned the importance of a balanced diet. Your body needs these two minerals to function properly:

Iodine-A mineral essential for the production of thyroid hormones. Needed for normal metabolism.
Sources: seafood, iodized salt and foods containing iodized salt.

Sodium- A mineral that regulates body fluid volume, concentration, and acid-base.
Sources:table salt and foods processed w/table salt, milk, milk products, eggs, and seafoods.

I dont think eleminating sugar would balance off the lack of salt, because your body needs both.
Try mixing up small amounts of salt in your meals, just a small amount-small enough not to cause a problem, or be tasted.

Well, salt is the major source of iodine in the diet. if you don't get enough iodine, your body will do some weird things to itself.(Look up Ricketts and goiter). But if you've always eaten like this and you're fine...I don't know. The whole ting about not eating sugar to balance not eating salt makes no sense. One has nothing to do with the other.

No. The salt-sugar thing won't work. Salt is a major source of iodine. You can get problems with your thyroid gland if you don't get enough iodine. So EAT IODIZED SALT!!! And try putting it in little amounts in your food. You'll get used to it. Thyroid problems are very expensive (personal experience).

There are people out there who refuse to eat anything green; just because they don't like a thing, doesn't mean it is not unhealthy to skip an item. You have to have some salt, no two ways about that. Sugar is not necessary.

You can certainly do without sugar, but your blood is basically saltwater. You don't need to sprinkle salt on your food unless you live on lettuce or something. It's everywhere. I'd recommending using a little iodized salt just to be on the safe side.

You don't need the sea salt regular is fine and most canned goods and processed foods are loaded with it. But if you are sweating allot either from, fever, exercises or heat you may need extra. Try a small glass of orange Gatorade if you exert. Pour it into some fruit juice if you hate the taste. It actually has 3 times the amount you need so then drink some water.
The less salt you eat the more you can taste it. i was raised by someone who was a bad heart patient, who didn't cook with salt and it took years to acclimate to the real world. I still cant eat stuff like soy sauce or canned chicken soup. I can also smell salt from miles away, like when visiting the ocean. So just do a pinch at a time and you'll get used to it.

It is virtually impossible to eliminate salt (sodium chloride) and sugar (sucrose) completely from your diet as lots of processed foods such as bread, pasta, cereals, muesli, butter, peanut butter, etc actually contain added salt (sodium chloride) and some contain added sugar (sucrose) as well.

Besides that, lots of food actually contain natural sodium as well so a sodium deficiency is almost impossible no matter what you eat. Most of us are actually overloaded with sodium even though some of us never ever use a salt shaker.

Sodium takes care of itself and too much is very common and too little sodium is virtually unheard of.

The less sugar (sucrose) you consume the better as it is simply dead calories without any nutritional value and it actuall weakens your immune system if you consume large amounts so you are better off wthout it.

Salt is a mineral that you body needs, so if you do not eat salt in any form, you will eventually have leg cramps and be in agony later on in life.
Sugar is also important to have in moderation because if your body does not get it at all, your body will start producing its own and then you will become a diabetic !!!!
LISTEN TO ME...
In the old days sailors got scurvy from not digesting sufficient salt and fresh fruit, (which contains fructose, sugar)...
You want to become a sickly old person, continue in this way....
Reform, take in salt in small quantities.
By the way, Iodized salt usually is enriched with other minerals which is good fr your teeth...
Limited sugar/fructose/glucose is vital.....
