Salt for bad tooth?

what exactly dees salt do to your teeth? like, what about it helps a topoth ache? do i put the salt directlyon the toooth and/of gum??/ or rinse with warm water and salt? what the difference and what does it do?

Salt dries and shrinks things so if you have puffy gums or an infection, it helps dry and shrink it. And that reduces the pressure build up within the tooth and around the gum, thus reducing pain. It's just a quick fix before a person can see a Dentist to take care of the problem

salt water rinse with warm water will help draw out infection. it wont do anything to the tooth, it will help the gum.

It won't "cure" the tooth. It won't fix any infection. The most it will do is help with any pain you're having. :-/ It does indeed help with the pain, though, although I'm not sure exactly why. Make a mixture of salt and warm water and swish. Hope you feel better!

People use it to brush there teeth and it also helps prevents infections, some dentist after surgery they would say gargle with warm salt water.

they do sell a product over the counter at the drug store to help numb a minor tooth ache.

i cant remember the name!

you can call the drug store they will tell you.

I hope this helps! :)

Hi there,
I cannot promote rinsing with warm water and salt enough.

It relieves the pressure of abscess infections by drawing out the infection by osmosis.. the infection behind the gum is drawn to the higher salt content in the rinse.

This was all that was available to people in the old days, before antibiotics. It relieves pressure.

TO TOMH311 BELOW ME,I HAVE EDITED MY ANSWER TO RESPOND TO YOU. I DONT KNOW IF U ARE TRYING TO GAIN POINTS OR WHATEVER WITH YOUR ANSWER BUT RINSING WITH SALT WATER IS ADVISED. IF U WERE A DENTIST, OR EVEN SPOKE TO ONE YOU'D KNOW THIS.

AND TO SAY SOMEBODY COULD KNOCK THE TOOTH OUT THEMSELVES IS RIDICULOUS ,PATHETIC AND DANGEROUS ADVICE.

AN ABSCESSED TOOTH CANNOT BE REMOVED OR 'KNOCKED OUT' AS U SAY WHILST INFECTED.IT MUST BE TREATED WITH ANTIBIOTICS AND THEN REMOVED OR ROOT-CANALLED.

RINSING WITH SALT WATRE,AS MOST PEOPLE WILL ADVOCATE, IS OF GREAT ASSISTANCE FOR (1) PAIN RELIEF and (2) REDUCING ABSCESS.

NATURALLY DURING TREATMENT IN THE ACTUAL DENTAL SURGERY ITS NOT USED,ITS USED IN CONJUNCTION WITH ANTIBIOTICS.

WHAT PLANET ARE U ON?

i absolutely can't believe that a fellow dentist would encourage the use of salt water. if you have an infection in the jaw bone that is caused by a tooth that is abscessing you have 2 options.....knock it out yourself or go to the dentist and have it fixed. and when you go to the dentist, salt water will not be used at all during the appointment.

i really hope that wasn't an american dentist.
