How is Salt (NaCl) anti inflammatory effect? |
As I experience, after use of salt solution (salt + water) topically on inflammation site, like insect bite site (hypersensitivity type 1), the itching, redness ans swell will disappear in 10 min. Salt causes water to evaporate faster. That's why you salt your sidewalks when it snows. This is a guess, however, based on my observation. I'm not a chemist. salt is cleansing and soften the water. vinegar will also take the sting out of an insect bite.... If the salt solution is more concentrated than 0.9%, it is hypertonic and therefore will draw fluid out from the inflammation reducing the swelling. |
