I would like to know if anyone knows whether or not Salmonella can be airborne as well as foodborne? |
With the latest outbreak of Salmonella in the peanut butter, there have been a lot of cases where people have experienced the symptoms (fever, diarrhea, vomiting) but when seen by a doctor wasn't able to be diagnosed. It was being treated as a viral infection because doctors could not determine the source but a lot of people who have experienced this so called infection have not eaten peanut butter. I am wondering if the two are linked because they have the same symptoms. No, salmonella is not airborne, however it could be on surfaces such as kitchen counters, sponges, utensils, etc. Salmonella is definitely not airborne. The viral infection symptoms probably mimic the symptoms if someone were to have salmonella (which is a bacterial infection). However, the two are not related due to the fact that salmonella is foodborne (and is on surfaces or contact areas). I absolutely agree with the first 2 responders to your question. |
