I have been exposed to salmonella and have a question.?

I have been exposed to salmonella for quite a while and have had a bacterial infection for about a month now that wont go away . Could the long term exposure could have done this?

Did your salmonella infection clear out of your system prior to you getting another bacterial infection? Because your immune system might have had a "tough battle" with your previous infection, assuming that it has been cleared in your system.

If you still have salmonella infection and you are infected with another bacterial pathogen, then the long duration of the "new" infection is probably due to the fact that your immune system has to deal with both infections at the same time, making them work over time to finish the job, i.e. clear all the infections out of your body.

If your previous infection has been cleared, and you have taken some antibiotics before and are currently taking the same antibiotics now for your "new" infection, then what might have happened is that the new bacterial infection acquired resistance to the antibiotics. The other end of the spectrum is that you have a slightly weaker immune response than any normal individual, which could explain the long duration of your exposure to the infection.

If the latter is the case, then there's not a lot to worry about, since your immune system is still fine enough to battle the infection in your body--the only catch is that they have to work overtime. In any case, stick with the med regime prescribed to you by your physician and observe your body's response to it.

Hope this helps!
