Childrens Book About SARS...?

im in grade 11 bioalogy and i have to make a childrens book about SARS... thing is i dont know how to like put all this information so that a little kid would understand it.. help plz!

Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) is caused by a coronavirus, is probably spread by respiratory droplets, and has an incubation of 2 to 10 days. It produces an influenza-like illness that occasionally leads to progressively severe respiratory insufficiency. The mortality rate is 10%. Diagnosis is clinical. To prevent spread, patients are isolated. Treatment is supportive.
Please see the web pages for more details on SARS.

Have you visited: http://www.write4kids.com/ I didn't research it much but it may help.

I would think that keeping the information simple, in easy to understand language would be the best method to get your message across to young kids.

For example, instead of saying; "Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) is a viral respiratory illness caused by a coronavirus, called SARS-associated coronavirus. The main way that SARS appears to spread is by close person-to-person contact. The virus that causes SARS is thought to be transmitted most readily by respiratory droplets (droplet spread) produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Droplet spread can happen when droplets from the cough or sneeze of an infected person are propelled a short distance.."

Try something like this: "SARS is a virus that is spread by close contact with other people. It can be spread by someone coughing or sneezing near you, so remember to cover your mouth everytime you cough or sneeze."

Simple colorful pictures can be helpfull for kids to visualize what you are saying, but might be too much for a school project.

Remember small children aren't great readers and loose their focus really fast if it isn't interesting, so I'd stay away from technical details and wordy descriptions.

Try to think like a kid.

Good Luck
