SAD and special lamps, does anyone use one ?

Okay, I have been told for a while to get one of those special lamps made especially for SAD patients (Winter makes me feel like a patient).
They are expensive...and I feel what is the use of lighting up just one room...I keep all my lights on all the time.
They seem to have 200 to 250 watts. which is bright, so they may work...However, a friend told me to buy a COSMETIC mirror the ones that have all those lights around them. They were very popular way back ! So I am going to try that, its less money, and I figure I can keep it beside me, and move it around???

HAS ANYONE TRIED ONE OF THESE SAd lamps and Found them useful?

I have a SAD lamp that uses blue light; it is small and compact and very effective.

I have one. I also have a visor with that type of light built in. Both are helpful. Yes, they're expensive, but they do help a lot.

I have an Ott Lite, a full-spectrum 10,000 lux lightbox for SAD. It is so bright that it really is like sitting outside in the sun. It's not so much a lamp you leave on all day as it is something you sit in front of for a while, perhaps 15-60 minutes a day, and then turn off. A makeup mirror is not a good substitute! If you need a theraputic light, you're going to have to spend the money.

It does work pretty well, but I have to use it regularly. It works best in the morning for me because that's when the sun would normally be shining (which doesn't always happen during Wisconsin winters). Frankly, though, I've found a healthy diet and vigorous exercise 5 days a week works better for depression than the light box does...but I still use it anyway, just to be sure :).

Best of luck!

I know tanning causes cancer, but here goes-
I asked a question about SAD on here and someone suggested that a visit a tanning salon now and again. I find it helps a great deal. I get some of the light I need, and having a glow to my skin is nice, too.
Just something to consider. The makeup mirror is interseting, my Mom always used one like that. I might check that out, too.
Something else I'm doing is that I put up lighter curtains and am keeping some new houseplants on my windowsills to have some extra life around.
Good luck this winter!
