SAD and light therapy.? |
Does anyone out there have personal experience with using light treatments to help with SAD? The sudden switch in the UK from a quick hot summer to darker nights seems to be playing havoc with my mood. I know there are lots of helpful descriptions on the Internet of what light therapy is supposed to do, but I am not asking for that. I wish to know if it actually has worked for other sufferers. Many thanks for your reply(s). I found that it did - I suffered from SAD during the winter. Get a good UV lamp and sit under it - I would read while I sat near the lamp and it really seemed to help me out. It does work - my bf did it - he gets depressed when the daylight gets shorter after summer - fall into winter etc - It worked for him and several other people I know. I would try it out - can't hurt :o) actually any light seems to work. You don't have to have the theraputic kind. When i was stricken with sad, a bought some cheap florescent fixtures and rigged them up to super-brighten my work space. it really helped. SAD seasonal affective disorder YES I HATE WINTER get depressed WORKING INDOORS THE LIGHTING KEEPS ME PROCESSING INFO ONCE HOME MY LIGHTS GO OUT NEVER TRIED TO EXPLORE LIGHT THERAPY @ HOME been a sad sufferer for yrs and light therapy is the best thing i ever did. I get kind of gloomy when it starts getting gray out, I have found that turning on a bright light when I first get up helps alot (I was also told by a professional to do this, she said it help regulate your sleep patterns and helps with your mood). I have also gone to the tanning bed to get my faux sun fix, but I'm thinking that light therapy might be a safer way because it does not expose you to harmful rays. personally i love the leaving of summer and going into autumn I love my light. It's on my list of things I'd take to a desert island. yeah it works my mums mate got some other yr I'm going to try as son as have the money |
