Back surgery?

How long is the recovery for surgery to remove a ruptured disk. Will I be able to live a normall life after that or will I have to worry about my back givivg out in the future

I just had a ruptured disk removed from between L4 and L5. It was resting on my Sciatic nerve and I was almost completely incapacitated. I had it removed Dec. 14th, was released from the hospital on Dec.16th. By New Years I was back to walking my dogs, climbing stairs, able to care for myself and my home again. Of course I am not totally back to my old self, but I am getting there.

Good Luck, there is hope!!
P.S. A neurosurgeon did my surgery, not an orthopedist......I highly recommend doing it that way if you can.

Did you try steriod injections into the area first? My doc suggested steriod injections into the spine at the sight opf the rupture and I feel so much better that I am not having surgery. Also there are physical therapy exercises that will help you learn how to relieve the pain yourself. Just a thought. It might work for you too.

WHY NOT? A LOT'S OF PEOPLE DO , IF YOU LIKE TO BE WITH THE PERSONS YOU LOVE SURE,YOU WILL RECOVER DON'T GIVAPE

You should be able to fully recover by the first week, but you should be able to get up and walk by the first day. My father got the same surgery and he got something called micro surgery where they do about three small incisions and the smaller the cut the better and the faster recovery you will have. In the future you should worry about putting too much pressure on your back, too much pressure can cause it to happen again.
